Harmony in Contrast
The WJC skyscraper is located in Portello, Milan which is a booming business area embraced by greenery and public parks all around, that helps create balance. This is where the design principle of Harmony in Contrast was born, by implementing greenery inside the building through biophilic design and balancing the business center through a mindful approach.
How to create contrast between the condo-hotel experience and the business tower environment? Giving a strong identity to the hotel, different from the remaining floors by offering users a mindful escape through biophilic design. This contrast is taken through out the journey, from the reception and lobby, to the hallways and rooms. The mindful escape is implemented using dark and light colors and materials to create Harmony in Contrast.
The Neolith Restaurant of the Future Design Contest 2015
Award: First Place
The aim of the competition was to design an innovative restaurant with Neolith as a primary material for the surfaces.
The design of this restaurant was driven by the clear concept of creating Curiosity in customers mind by offering a relationship between interior and exterior spaces. For this reason the restaurant is split into two distinctive floor models having its own lining pattern. Despite the use of separete linings for each floor the proposal remains clear and unifies itself with the lining used in the walls, equipment and furniture which remains unchanged for both floors.
The exterior of the restaurant is planned using two lines of sight. In the first one, the inner part of one of the restaurant’s sides can be seen completely as a long bar accompanied with stools and a shelf with potted plants acting as a division. Single tables are placed to the side of the bar with an L-shaped couch that continues to the exterior. The second line of sight is composed of parallel wooden rods placed in vertical position and acting as a curtain to the projection towards the inside creating curiosity.
